PBO Parent Code of Conduct

Palos Baseball Organization (PBO) is committed to providing a safe, positive, and development-focused environment for all players, coaches, umpires, and families. As a condition of participation in PBO, all parents, guardians, and spectators agree to the following Code of Conduct:

1. Support a Positive Environment

I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, umpires, and spectators at every game, practice, or event.

I will remember that children participate to have fun, develop skills, and learn teamwork.

2. Respect for Umpires and Officials

I understand that umpires have the final say on all calls.

I will never argue, yell at, or verbally abuse an umpire, including youth umpires.

I understand that only the team manager may calmly question a call when appropriate.

3. Respect for Coaches and Volunteers

I will respect the decisions of coaches and will not undermine them before, during, or after a game.

I will allow coaches to coach and will not shout instructions to players during the game.

4. Respect for Players

I will not yell at, criticize, or belittle any child—whether my own or someone else’s.

I will provide positive encouragement and will not add pressure that harms the child’s enjoyment of the game.

5. Zero Tolerance for Disruptive Behavior

I understand that PBO follows a Zero Tolerance Policy and I will not engage in behaviors including (but not limited to):

Verbal or physical abuse

Threatening language

Foul or offensive language

Confrontations with coaches, umpires, or other parents

Entering the field of play without permission

Using social media to harass or disparage players, coaches, umpires, or PBO

Any violation may result in removal from the field, suspension, or expulsion from PBO.

6. Communication & Conduct With Trustees

If a situation arises, I will seek out a PBO Trustee calmly and respectfully.

I will not confront coaches, umpires, or other parents during or immediately after a game.

I understand PBO Trustees have the authority to intervene and make final on-site decisions.

7. Commitment to the Program

I will ensure my player attends practices and games on time and with the proper equipment.

I will notify the coach in advance of absences or conflicts.

I understand consistent participation is vital to team development.

8. Alcohol, Tobacco, and Substance Policy

I will not possess or use alcohol, tobacco, vapes, or illegal substances at any PBO event or field.

I will not attend games or practices while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

9. Sideline Behavior

I will remain in designated spectator areas and will not enter player benches or dugouts.

I will keep younger siblings under my supervision at all times.

I will not bring pets onto the playing fields (exception: service animals).

10. Social Media Responsibility

I will not post videos, photos, or comments online that criticize or demean players, umpires, coaches, or PBO.

I understand that inappropriate online behavior may result in disciplinary action.

11. Acknowledgement of Discipline

I understand that violations of this Parent Code of Conduct may result in:

Verbal warning

Removal from the premises

Game suspension

Removal from future events

Revocation of my player’s registration without refund

Any action deemed necessary by PBO Trustees to protect the safety and integrity of the league

12. Agreement

By completing registration, I agree that:

I have read, understand, and agree to abide by this Parent Code of Conduct.

It is my responsibility to ensure all family members and guests attending games comply with these standards.

I acknowledge that PBO Trustees have the authority to enforce this policy at all times
