Pitching Limits
Failure to follow pitching limits will result in penalties as described in the Penalties section of the rulebook.
No Walk Rule
Walks are not allowed.
After 4 balls, the batting team’s coach will pitch up to 3 pitches.
Batter must hit the ball in play or strike out
Hit by coach pitch does NOT award first base
Hit by coach pitch counts as one of the 3 pitches
Example:
If ball four occurs with two strikes, the batter still receives 3 coach pitches unless the third pitch is fouled off.
Coach Pitch Procedure
During coach pitching:
The pitcher of record stays on the field
Pitcher must stand with one foot in the dirt on the mound next to the rubber
Pitcher cannot be substituted defensively
Coach must:
Be in contact with the pitching rubber
Throw overhand
Move out of the way of batted balls
Leave the field once the ball is put in play
Ball Hits Coach
If a batted ball hits the coach pitcher:
Coach Pitch Flow
Pitcher pitches → Ball Four → Coach pitches (max 3 pitches) → Batter hits ball or strikes out → Play continues.
